2013-14 PTA Meeting Minutes

September: PTA's first meeting of the 2013-14 school year was called to order on September 13 at 9:38 a.m. in the library. Our members in attendance voted to approve both June's meeting minutes as well as the 2013-14 PTA proposed budget. The following topics, among others, were covered: PTA communication outlets and efforts, new and exciting learning programs at Mantua ES, changes to testing in 2013-14, upcoming events on the school calendar, PTA-sponsored fall programs, fundraising and membership. October: PTA's second meeting of the 2013-14 school year was called to order on October 10 at 7:10 p.m. Our members in attendance voted to approve September's meeting minutes. The following topics, among others, were covered: PTA-funded field trips and teacher development, the annual food drive and other upcoming school-sponsored events, programs and testing, PTA-sponsored fall programs, fundraising and membership. November: PTA's third meeting of the 2013-14 school year was called to order on November 1 at 9:40 a.m. Our members in attendance voted to approve October's meeting minutes. The following topics, among others, were covered: AlertNews, PTA revenue and expenses, school-sponsored events, programs and testing schedule, PTA-sponsored fall programs and volunteer needs and fundraising. December: No December meeting was scheduled due to the holidays.

January: PTA's fourth meeting of the 2013-14 school year was called to order on January 10 at 11:34 a.m. Our members in attendance voted to approve November's meeting minutes. The following topics, among others, were covered: Super Teacher Awards, Citizenship Essay Contest, PTA financial report, school-sponsored events, Activate K-2, Dr. Garza's budget and how budget cuts on a district level impact PTA, testing schedule, PTA-sponsored fall programs and volunteer needs and ongoing/upcoming fundraiser statuses. February: PTA's fifth meeting of the 2013-14 school year was canceled due to hazardous weather conditions.

March: PTA's sixth meeting of the 2013-14 school year was called to order on March 7 at 9:30 a.m. Our members in attendance voted to approve January's meeting minutes. The following topics, among others, were covered: proposed personal property tax hike, winter Box Tops competition, basketball and Chipotle restaurant night earnings report, recent and upcoming school activities, snow make-up days, Mantua ES's loss of our TC Program and Ms. Tingler, testing schedule, PTA-sponsored programs and fundraisers, Nominating Committee vote and concussion testing. April: PTA's seventh meeting of the 2013-14 school year was called to order on April 3 at 7:40 p.m. in the library. Our members in attendance voted to approve March's meeting minutes. The following topics, among others, were covered: PTA communication outreach, the Relyea family's generous $4000 donation to Mantua's Distance Learning Center, Spring Fling's preliminary report, PTA donations ($2000 to the Classroom Language Arts program and $2500 for the Distance Learning Center upgrade project), recent and upcoming school activities, snow make-up day considerations, VA legislative consideration to reduce the number of SOL tests for elementary and middle schools, testing schedule, PTA-sponsored programs, Spring Fling thank yous, need for PTA Executive Board volunteers, "Homes Tour" fundraiser suggestion and the support of military children at Mantua ES.
