Basketball
The new Mantua Basketball website (including team & schedule info, etc.) is HERE.
For many years the Mantua PTA has sponsored a very active youth basketball league. Mantua PTA basketball is an enduring tradition that embraces students with a wide variety of skill levels, and fosters a love of the sport and a sense of camaraderie among the students who participate.Our league emphasizes teamwork, skill development, and sportsmanship. Last year, over 250 children participated in parent-coached boys and girls teams, separated into 3rd-4th and 5th-6th grade divisions.
Practices: Practices are one hour long, usually once per week (days and times vary by week). Practices for 3rd & 4th graders are at either 5:30pm or 6:30pm, and practices for 5th & 6th graders are at 7:30pm or 8:30pm. Note: There is the addition of one extra practice the first weekend in December instead of a game.
Games: Once games begin, there will normally be one weekly practice and one weekend game. Games can be any time between 8am and 9pm on Saturdays, or noon and 9pm on Sundays.

Volunteer Building Director (VBD) Information
As you probably know, Mantua Basketball is a 100% volunteer organization. One key aspect of this is the VBD program. The county requires that a VBD be present in the gym during all practices and games. Each team should have at least one VBD. To learn how to be a certified VBD, please go to http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/rec/Team_Sports/VolBld_Dir.htm . At this site, you will be able to see a video on the program and print out the test (that will need to be sent or faxed in).
